*PLUMBER WARNING*
The MUD office has recently learned that some local plumbers are recommending that our residents install additional drinking water treatment equipment (such as filtration) because of "changes in our water quality" These people are misinformed-- they presumably believe that Northampton has changed to surface water. Our water source HAS NOT CHANGED since we were initially developed over 40 years ago. While it is true that developments to the south of us have converted to surface water, Northampton continues to provide high quality drinking water from deep wells. Surface water for Northampton is NOT in our foreseeable future.

At this point it’s no surprise we are enduring a long dry spell. Naturally, as the heat rises and rain is nowhere in sight, water demand goes up as residents try to maintain their yards and gardens. Northampton MUD has the responsibility of ensuring that there is enough water to serve our residents. This includes making sure that there is a plan in place to ensure that health and safety issues (like fire fighting) are addressed. This plan is called the “Drought Contingency Plan”, and its action is triggered by the number of hours the water wells have to run to keep up with demand.
Stage one of the rationing plan is triggered when the wells must run 18 hours a day to keep up, and stage two when wells need 22 hours to meet demand.
The restrictions are as follows:
Stage 1:
1)
Odd addresses & Esplanades – Water on Saturday & Wednesday
Only 8PM to
10AM
2)
Even addresses – Water on Sunday & Thursday
Only 8PM to
10AM
3)
Hand
held hose for yard watering or car washing at any time
4)
Please
practice water conservation and minimize or discontinue water for
non-essential
purposes
Stage 2:
1) Odd addresses & Esplanades – Water on
Saturday & Wednesday
Only 9PM to
7AM
2) Even addresses – Water on Sunday & Thursday
Only 9PM to
7AM
3) Car washing only on above designated watering days and times
4) No washing-down of sidewalks, driveways, or building surfaces
5) No Pool/Jacuzzi filling except on above designated watering days and
times
6) Be vigilant in practicing water conservation and eliminate non-essential
use of water
Please do not wait until ration
implementation to take preventative water waste measures. For those with
sprinkler systems, now is a good time, during the daytime, to test each
circuit of your system to make sure all heads are functioning properly and
you are getting proper coverage. When systems run at night you may not see
the problems.
Also, please have someone be responsible for your watering if you go on
vacation.
We ask you to be on the lookout for signs that will be
placed at the entrances or on the esplanades when restrictions are required.
Following these requirements will go a long way to helping us keep enough
water in our tanks to meet our needs.
